The following information can be used as a guide to installing the SharpPOS 

software on a Windows tablet.  The information is based on the Dell Venue 8” 
and 11” Pro tablets. 

 

Updates from V4.1.1363 will support the 1280 x 800 and 1366 x 768 screen 
resolutions for the Dell Venue 8 and 11 tablets. 

 1.       In control panel – System and Security – Action centre – select User 

account control settings 

2.       Drag the slider bar to the bottom (Never notify) 

3.       Using the latest install file for non-Sharp hardware from Jan 2013, 

install VPM first then SharpPOS using the dropbox links below 

 

4.       Once installed update to version V4.1.1363 or greater 

5.       Create a shortcut to the C:\vpro\exe\S2008.exe file 

6.       Place this shortcut on the Desktop 

7.       Right click the shortcut and select properties 

8.       For a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 add /s5 to the end of the target 
line so that it shows as c:\vpro\exe\s2008.exe /s5

For a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 add /s3 to the end of the target 

line so that it shows as c:\vpro\exe\s2008.exe /s3 

 

10.       There is also an S2001.ini file setting that can be added to the 

S2001.ini file on the tablet that will help if the tablet goes out of range.

More useful settings are detailed below (Note: SharpPOS V4.1.1903 must be

11.  Receipt / bill printer choice  
 
When printing a Receipt or Bill it is now possible to configure SharpPOS to 

display a list of pre-configured printers on which to print a Bill / Receipt.  This 
is especially useful when using tablets. 
Programming 

 

1.  On the Tablet / Slave add the following line to the S2001.ini  

PRINTERCHOOSE=a,b,c  (where a,b,c is the till number that contains 

the receipt  / bill printer.

2.  When Bill or receipt is pressed the following screen pops up.

3.  Select the required machine from the list.  The button will go yellow. 

Then press OK to print 
 

If Default is pressed without any Till being chosen then the pre-configured Bill 

/ Receipt setting in VPM - Till configuration for this Tablet will be used for this 
print job. 
 

12.  Sharppos system shutdown or exit to os option 
 
Currently when the ‘System Shutdown’ option is pressed from the SharpPOS 
Main menu the options are ‘Shutdown’ yes or no.  Using the new S2001.ini 

setting described below and addition prompt to ‘Exit to OS’ will be shown.  
Selecting the ‘Exit to OS’ option will close the SharpPOS application and return 
the operator to the Windows desktop. 
 

Programming 
 

1.  Add the setting below to the C:\Vpro\data\tillxxx\s2001.ini on the each 

till.  Where xxx is the till number.

13.  Manual slave updates 
 
If a tablet pc running SharpPOS has been off for a period of time the Tablet 
can experience slow operation due to large numbers of pending changes from 

the back office software when it is back on the network.  To resolve this it is 
now possible to turn off certain automatic updates from being sent to certain 
terminals.  To receive these changes an ‘Update local database’ must be 

performed instead on each individual device. 
Programming 
 

1.  To turn off the transmitting of automatic back office updates for 

certain terminals the following setting must be added to the 
c:\Vpro\data\till001\s2001.ini file on the master terminal. E.g. 

terminals 5, 6 and 7 below will not receive updates automatically. 
 

SLAVEDATAUPDATEOFF=5,6,7 

 

2.  To update the slave you will need to perform an update local database 

from the SharpPOS Utilities Menu on the individual slave. 
 

Note: PLU Edit, 86 item countdown and table status changes are not affected 

by the above S2001.ini setting and will continue to work in real time to all 
slaves.
