Introduction
This document is designed to simplify the requirements when connecting Sharp embedded
ECR/POS products via the internet. All products using the Manager Workstation (MWS)
function can use this procedure. This means ALL POS that can be connected to a Back Office
via a network connection.
It is possible using the configurations shown in the document to make a number of
connection types, but there may be more in the future. The documentation specifies certain
makes and models of equipment, however it is possible to use alternative equipment that has
similar specifications.
There is no requirement to have any changes made to current Back Office software, as the
connection when made takes the role of a normal LAN (Local Area Network).
Requirements
There are number of points that must be explained because of the type of product the
embedded POS is. Currently no PPP connection is available on the embedded POS products
which means it is not possible to make a direct connection to the internet from the embedded
POS.
To create the connection it is necessary to use a DSL router (or DSL Modem and separate
Router) at the POS end and either a modem or a router at the PC end. The following
diagrams show the different connections that can be used. This is followed by a working
diagram showing a tried system, detailing all IP address’s, hardware used and cable
configuration. ALL DSL Lines must be “Static IP”. If this is not done settings will need to be
changed every time the DSL is re-booted. Also because of the necessity to re-route the IP
port, a router must be used at the POS end that has “port redirection” capability. Most do.
