Service bulletin # HK2014‐003
To:
All Harman Kardon Service Centers.
Models:
Onyx
Subject:
Preventive action / Cannot charge battery / Unit cannot power on at all
Preventive action: In the event you receive an Onyx for repair, make sure to perform the following modification, if it
has not already been done: Replace SMD resistor R62 with 0 Ohm resistor.
Parts for preventive action: ONYX‐KIT. Please note that only the 0 Ohm SMD resistor is needed from the Repair kit.
If unit cannot charge battery or cannot power on at all:
Check whether D2 is shorted and may have caused damage to the board.
Repair on component level if unit/diode is failing: use spare part “ONYX‐KIT”.
ONYX KIT contains what is needed to exchange SMD resistor R62 and SMD diode D2, but make sure to check the
circuit for other possible defects.
Part to use if main board is damaged: 08‐KS321U‐MA0 (Assy main board).

Remove this screw, and the 9 other screws from the back panel.
Remove the 2 covers on the sides of the back panel (where metal ring is mounted) by sliding them upwards.
Remove the silicone ring together with the metal ring.
Remove the back cover.
Disconnect the battery by disconnecting XP2.
For preventive action or repair: Locate and replace SMD resistor R62, and if needed SMD diode D2.
If board is damaged: Replace the main board.
