In the event you receive an AVR Unit  with the complaint “The volume control no longer works,” or 
“From time to time the volume changes automatically”.  Perform the following modification.

Bend these 4 arms to a vertical 
position. 
Take the print off. 
Clean here with some 
contact grease 
Tighten up this small springs,  
just a little bit. 
Grease the contact plate with some 
contact grease.
Assemble everything again, 
 now your Volume encoder will 
 work again.
